Review 4218: Owner, Property ID 2058
3bed/2bath house in Vineyard Haven, Massachusetts
July 19-August 2, 2009, 2 weeks
This beautiful contemporary home is set on 1.5 acres tucked away in Martha's Vineyard surrounded by farms. Very quiet, casual, pet friendly. The views from the windows and decks are lovely - trees and local farms. It is not near the beach, but they are easily accessible by car. There is a horse farm on one side (including miniature ponies)that are really friendly, an alpaca farm down the road, and a vegetable farm on another side. A short walk away is a small fresh water pond. This is not for swimming, but great for fishing. Very private.
You need to drive or take a bus at the end of the road.
The house is a contemporary. The website describes it well. It has two levels - on bottom level is a master bedroom and twin bedroom with shared bath, laundry room with washer and dryer. The master bedroom has a small deck that overlooks a grove of pines with bird feeders. Beautiful birds come all day long. Upstairs is the main living area with a living /dining area with a fireplace. Kitchen is galley style but fully equipped. Large floor to ceiling windows with great views and a deck that feels like it is in the tops of the trees. The deck has a round table with chairs and umbrella and a Weber charcoal grill.
Yes - both decks - and also there is lovely grounds - grass, flower gardens. No pool but completely private.
Furniture is casual - comfortable and easy to maintain. Plenty of seating.
Bedrooms are comfortable. Beds are firm. Plenty of lighting. Closets are great - lots of room.
Yes, the kitchen was usable. The kitchen is perfect for the Vineyard. Lots of pots and pans, including lobster pots (essential for the Island). Variety of wine glasses! Fully stocked for all kinds of cooking.
Problems or Bonuses
No surprises. Exactly as described on website. Impressed by the quiet.
Agency and Representatives (and price)
Kathleen owns this property. She is available through the website: Weneedavacation.com. She speaks English (this is USA). I do not know if she speaks other languages. She was able to get us ferry tickets to the island (very important as it is hard to get ferry tickets in the summer!)
Once initial contact is made she calls or emails right away. We paid $1700 per week in July 2009. This is a reasonable rate for Martha's Vineyard.
Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?
Yes. It is a wonderful place for anyone who wants to visit the Vineyard. Having a car is probably essential unless you are happy to come here and use the bus. (not me). One can rent a car here, but it is expensive. We bring our car on the ferry. (Steamship Authority). Kathleen is very accommodating and is very casual about our two dogs. She also loves cats and has pictures of them around the house.
Things to do in this area
The beaches are probably the most beautiful in the world. Lots of places to walk, bike, fish, hike, kayak, etc. It is a tourist haven in the summer and very quiet, peaceful in the other seasons.
Restaurants are everywhere and in the summer use local vendors (fresh seafood, vegetables.
