Review 4447: Owner, S.S. Key Largo
5bed/4bath house in Key Largo, Florida
December 2009, 1 week
The rental house is a waterfront property located in Key Largo, Florida. Waterfront property in the Keys is normally divided into two groups, Ocean side and Bay side and this is an Ocean side property. The advantages of an Ocean side property is the sun rise, cooler breeze coming from the water and less mosquitoes. The house is situated on a short canal that leads out to the glorious crystal blue ocean and the house itself has a boat slip that can accommodate a very large boat (up to 90 ft). The location is in a small neighborhood less than a mile from the main road, there is a house on one side, an empty lot on the other side and there are a few other other houses along the canal. Despite this, it is a rather quiet place and if you really want privacy there are so many rooms in the house, it would be no problem to find an escape. The back of the lot faces the water and the front of the house has a wall with a gate, so if you had pets, they could be safely contained.
The area around the house is a lovely neighborhood, with two restaurants and a marina virtually next door. There are also a couple of guys sitting outside selling fresh catches, so depending on the season you can get fresh fish or lobster for a bargain. Otherwise the marina always has fresh seafood for sale. The Pilot House restaurant/marina has live music each night, so if you fancy a dance, you won't have to go far. A short walk towards the main road will bring you to a breakfast diner and a drug store (banks and other things) and once you are on US 1, you will find everything, grocery stores, restaurants, star bucks or whatever.
In addition to that you can also find:
The house used to belong to Pablo Escobar, who was known for (among other things) having outrageous decorating style and an obsession with bathrooms. This being the case, the house has some incredible fixtures built into the structure, and all of the bathrooms were custom built and all of the original tile was custom designed. The hallway is lined with aged pine taken from a boat, the master bedroom / bathroom has imported pink Italian marble on the walls and floors and a huge sunken jacuzzi that overlooks the water. Combine that with really unusual plaster patterns and glitter (yes, glitter!) on the ceiling and you get the a really unusual and interesting space. It might sound garish and horrible, but open both sets of doors in the bedroom that line the entire wall, lay on the super king size bed and gaze out over the water and tropical surroundings, it is truly a special and relaxing place, with a bit of history and definitely character.
You can view the property directly: SS Key Largo.
The front of the house is walled off from the street with a gate and a circular drive, there is a small pool on the side, a huge boat dock (covered) and an open terrace facing the canal. It is a great place to sit in the sun, watching the boats from the marina go buy and I personally recommend a happy hour drink out there at the end of the day. Simply fantastic!
The house is huge with both sitting rooms having huge screen TVs, and all bedrooms having there own TVs as well. All the beds were comfy with nice soft sheets and good towels in the bathrooms. The house has everything you need, just add food and drink and let the chillaxin' begin!
Agency and Representatives (and price)
The owner and the agent are very nice people and are willing to negotiate.
