1bed/1bath cottage on Sanibel Island, Florida

Location

Beachview Cottages is on the Gulf of Mexico on west Gulf Drive in Sanibel Island. This area has lots of condos on the beach side of the road and private homes on the other. It is on a nice stretch of beach and is a great vantage point for the Sanibel must do of sunset watching.

Nearby Amenities

A nice grocery store with everything you could possibly need is about 1.5 miles away. It is on the bike path.

The House/Apartment

This is a tiny cottage, part of a set of 22. Ours was attached to two others. It is a very quiet place though the units are packed in closely.

Garden

There is a small shared pool about 25 feet away and the beach also is about 25 feet away from our particular unit, though there are two units right on the beach. There is a wonderful big deck part shaded and part open, right on the edge of the beach.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

The furnishings are moderately comfortable. For two people there are four dining chairs, a small couch. There are plastic chairs on the small screened porch. Everything is clean but dated.

Bedrooms/Bathrooms

The bedroom has one double and one twin bed, only moderately comfortable. The bathroom is small but adequate.

Kitchen

The kitchen is small, minimally equipped but functional for a beach vacation. There is a charcoal grill provided for each unit.

Problems or Bonuses

The best thing about Beachview is the "old Florida " feel. People come back every year for decades, literally.

The biggest negative is the condos encroaching on either side.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

We already booked for next year. Beachview is not perfect, but Sanibel is lacking in any accommodations besides condos, which we don't like. This is very beachy, the staff is great, we have booked for next year but in a bigger, closer to the beach unit.

Things to do in this area

Shelling on Sanibel is world class. The Ding Darling wildlife refuge is a birding paradise. There are many miles of actively used bike path and easy bike rentals. There are many restaurants, we liked Lazy Flamingo and especially the Lighthouse. Pinnochio's has great homemade ice cream. Mostly this is a walk or lie on the beach vacation!
