1bed/2bath house in Santa Fe, New Mexico WhenApril 2010, 4 days LocationThe Guest House is on the outskirts of Santa Fe, about a 10-12 minute drive from the Plaza. It's in an area of widely-spaced homes, up a steep dirt road. Dave owns three rentals on the road, all have privacy and views. Nearby AmenitiesYou'd need a car there, and it's a 10 minute drive to any restaurants and shops. The House/ApartmentThe house was very quiet, set in a wooded area with a garden surrounding the house. There is the owner's house with a studio rental up the drive; and another smaller rental below. You don't see or hear the other houses. It's traditional adobe construction, furnished in typical "Santa-Fe-type" furnishings and decor. You enter to the open living/dining/kitchen area, with lots of windows to see the grounds and view. The living room is a step down, so you do need to be aware of your footing. There's a full bath on this floor. The second story is up a spiral staircase with good railings. Upstairs is a bedroom with private full bath, and a second king-sized bed in the alcove just outside the bedroom's door. GardenThe house has a very large patio outside the front door, with a view down into the valley and across to the mountains. There's a dining table and chairs, a grill, and some other furnishings. On the second floor of the house is a door to a large terrace with even better views. Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasThe furniture was in generally good shape and comfortable. Living room sofa is a pullout, and there's another single bed/sofa near the front window. The dining table had five chairs. The house was clean upon our arrival. The house has electric heaters in the rooms, and a wood stove in the living room. We had a chilly and snowy night, and found the heaters and the adobe construction kept us comfortable. Bedrooms/BathroomsThe beds were very comfortable. Our one quibble was that the sliding bedroom door didn't close smoothly, leaving a very small gap at center and bottom. The bathrooms were older, but in fine condition. KitchenThe kitchen was very usable for full meals, with plenty of cookware, plates, glasses, etc. Problems or BonusesI was surprised there was no "House Book" with instructions for garbage, wood stove, heating, recommendations, etc. Agency and Representatives (and price)The owner was very responsive to e-mails, calling me quickly in the rental process to see if I had any questions. He takes credit cards for deposit and balance payment. Once there, he responded to e-mails and suggested we call with any questions. Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?I'd stay there again, and it'd be a great house for warmer weather so you could enjoy the patios. I think it's best for one couple with perhaps an older child. Things to do in this areaIt's Santa Fe! Hike, eat, shop, visit museums.
