Review 4919: Anna Maria Accommodations, High Tide Lighthouse

Review by bethtanya from MA

2bed/2bath house on Anna Maria Island, Florida

March, 2011, one week

This is a cottage on the beach on the Tampa Bay. Buildings are close together. This is a lovely, quiet residential area with killer views of the bay and the very beautiful Sunshine Skyway Bridge in the distance.

Nearby Amenities

Nearest restaurants are a few blocks away along the beach or the street. For grocery shopping one would need to drive or take the free island trolley.

The House/Apartment

The cottage is built in the shape of a hexagon affording water views from almost every room, including the kitchen. The house is on stilts with a giant deck on the main living level. Downstairs is the second bathroom, handy for when you first get home or are on the beach. There is a shaded sitting area, very commodious, with hammocks, under the deck.

On the main floor there are two very good sized bedrooms each with a queen bed and ample closets and dressers. The house is in good, not fabulous condition, but is very livable. Huge windows are on all water facing sides and there is a window between the bedroom and living room (with blinds if you wish), which affords amazing views form the bed.

Kitchen is minimally supplied, no dish washer, but there is a good washer and drier on the main floor in a closet.

You can view the property directly: High Tide Lighthouse.

Huge deck with many plastic Adirondack chairs. Beach chairs and beach toys in ample supply. Three hammocks under the deck, outdoor shower, no pool, but the Tampa Bay is excellent swimming. The view is gorgeous. There are many varieties of water birds in evidence continually, only a few feet away at the edge of the water.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

The furniture was simple but reasonably comfortable. House clean, not sparkling, especially some of the dishes. There is ample seating for four to six people on couches and comfortable chairs and a bug dining table with six good chairs.

Bedrooms are big and light, simple but very nice in a beach house kind of way. Comfortable mattresses in both rooms, many sheets, blankets and pillow. Some of the blankets are old. Bathrooms simple, main floor has a small tub with a very good shower. Downstairs very basic stall shower.

The kitchen is usable but minimal. We cooked often and sometimes it was hard to find the right pot or pan. There is a charcoal grill downstairs. Even from the kitchen you see the sea.

Problems or Bonuses

Positive: the amazing views and presence of the ocean, the lovely neighborhood, the plethora of birds.

Negative: windows worked with difficulty. We reported this and have been told they will be fixed before our return stay next year. This home is about simplicity, location, location, location.

There were too many cutsie beachy items which clearly belong to owners who obviously use the house at times. We wished there were bird books.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

We were treated well. There is not as much hands on management as we like, but calls about problems were quickly answered and repair people came instantaneously. The website is very accurate. Price is $1350 per week.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

we are staying again and saw nowhere in Anna Maria we would prefer. Again, this is not fancy, so if you want granite counters and high end appliances or sleek modern furniture, this is not it. But if you want a simple, comfortable beach cottage with killer views and very quiet but accessible location, voila!

Things to do in this area

Beach, beach, beach, lots of restaurants, some shopping. Our favorite restaurant in the area is Mr. Bones, specializing in ribs.
