Review 4942: Owner, #302132
1bed/1.5bath house near Asheville, North Carolina
March 2011, Four nights
My husband and I wanted to escape to the mountains of Western North Carolina, only two hours from where we live. I found this "cabin" on VRBO and fell in love. The cabin is more expensive than what we would normally pay, but we decided we'd rather stay four nights here than a week somewhere else. It's truly a special place, and we felt instantly at home.
The cabin is only 10 minutes from downtown Asheville, situated up on a mountain with beautiful views. You can reach the Blue Ridge Parkway in about 10 minutes, continuing on the road you took from Asheville. Access to the cabin is down a gravel road, and a four-wheel drive might be important in the winter months.
The cabin was built in 2010 by a local couple who own over 50 acres of land and live nearby. Most of the wood came from the property and it has been just beautifully done. It's an absolutely beautiful place with so many special touches ... the perfect place for a romantic and relaxing getaway.
The upper level is a big great room with a comfortable living area, corner table by the windows, a larger dining area, and very modern open kitchen with eating bar. We enjoyed sitting in front of the big fireplace (plenty of wood provided). There's a big screen TV but you'll need to bring your own movies. There's also a half bath on this level and a furnished porch with gas grill.
The lower level includes a big bedroom with lots of closet space and a wonderful bed and a large bathroom. You can also access the outdoors from this level.
There's another outdoor seating area by the front door with an outdoor fireplace. Hiking trails lead from the house all around the property, and maps are provided.
The owners seem to have thought about everything you would need: modern appliances, a fully equipped kitchen, washer-dryer, toiletries, WiFi, blankets to use on the porch, lots of tourist information etc. Patty was great to deal with before our arrival, and Brison came quickly when we couldn't figure out the television.
We expected to spend more time in Asheville, but we loved this place so much that we stayed here much more than we expected. A great Ingles grocery store is just 10 minutes down the hill and there are plenty of interesting restaurants and good shopping in Asheville. Biltmore House is also nearby.
