Review 4956: Owner, Blue Moon (#6513)
3bed/3bath house on Chincoteague Island, Virginia
April 2011, 7 days
This is a great house in Chincoteague VA, close to Assateague Island. It is on a side street in a quiet neighborhood.
You could walk or bike to all the downtown locations as well as bike to Assateague Island. The walk to the grocery store would be a bit long with bags. There is a nice seafood market just about 100 yards from the house.
The house was built in the 1920's but the interior has been completely renovated within the last few years. The house is on three floors with a living/dining area, large kitchen and full bath on the first floor. The second floor has two queen sized bedrooms, a 3/4 bath (shower only), washer and dryer and a TV room with a daybed. The master suite is on the third floor. The stairs up to the third floor are narrow and steep. This would not be a good house for anyone with mobility issues.
The house has two screened porches, one in the front and one off the kitchen with a table and chairs. There is no pool.
The house in nicely furnished and tastefully decorated. The house was very clean.
Beds were quite comfortable. The master bedroom is quite large. The two queen sized bedrooms are adequate. Bathrooms are all nice and clean.
Kitchen is quite nicely equipped. In general, we have never been overly enthusiastic about the restaurants in town so we cooked almost all of our dinners at the house. The stove is fairly new and gas but takes forever to boil large pots of water.
Problems or Bonuses
We were quite happy with the house. We were surprised with how well equipped the kitchen was and a bit surprised with the narrow treads of the stairs up to the third level.
Agency and Representatives (and price)
The agency was very good to work with and very responsive. We felt the house was an excellent value for us at $700/week in April. There are taxes and an $85. cleaning fee.
Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?
We would definitely stay at this house again, and plan to do so.
Things to do in this area
The main attraction for Chincoteague is its location close to Assateague Island National Sea Shore and the wild ponies. There is great biking on the Island. In town there are several restaurants, none of which we feel are really good food, although they are generally "OK." Don's has good soups and there is a sandwich shop called Sea Star, which has fabulous gourmet sandwiches. There are several art galleries and other shops downtown.
