3bed/2bath house in Great Barrington, Massachusetts
WhenOctober, 2012, 5 days LocationThis newly remodeled 3 bedroom, 2 bath Cape is located in a charming old Victorian neighborhood "On the Hill" in Great Barrington. Nearby AmenitiesWalk to Lake Mansfield and downtown GB for restaurants, shopping, theater, the Farmer's Market, children's music, spas, antiques and more. The main grocery stores were a short 5 - 10 minute drive away. The House/Apartmentthe house has recently been remodeled. On the main floor was a large kitchen with new, high-end appliances, dinging room, great room, bathroom, and two bedrooms. Upstairs was a huge loft with two beds, an en-suite bathroom, and a reading nook furnished with a futon. By my calculations the house could sleep 10 - 12 if you had folks bunking on the couches. GardenThe property was well kept with mature trees. There was a large wrap around deck with chairs and an outdoor table provided. There was a retractable awning for those times when the sun was strong. Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasThe furniture was in good shape. We found the house to be very clean. Bedrooms/BathroomsThe beds were comfortable and the linens provided were a high quality. The bathrooms were large with new fixtures. The shower had great water pressure. there was plenty of warm water. KitchenThe kitchen was wonderful - big and well-suited for cooking. The appliances were higher end Kitchen Aid. The dishwasher was a Bosch and it was the best dishwasher we have ever experienced. As is often the case with rentals the knives were horrid. note to self - if you plan on cooking always bring decent knives! Problems or BonusesThe only thing we didn't like was the bloody smoke alarm which went off at unusual times whilst cooking (no, things were not being charred). Agency and Representatives (and price)The owner was easy to work with. She responded to e-mails promptly and had some great suggestions of things to see and do in the area. Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?I would certainly recommend this rental to anyone looking for a home away from home in the Berkshires. Things to do in this area"The Hill" in Great Barrington is close to all the outdoor adventures and culture the Berkshires have to offer. Whether it's swimming, hiking, rock climbing, and kayaking or skiing (Ski Butternut is less than 10 minutes away), ice skating and ice fishing (around the corner at Lake Mansfield) or visiting Tanglewood (20 minutes), Shakespeare and Co. (30 minutes), and Jacob's Pillow (40 minutes) you will enjoy coming home to this cozy home and enjoying your friends and family.
