1bed/2bath apartment on Kaanapali Beach, Maui, Hawaii WhenFebruary 2001, six nights LocationThe Whaler Resort sits directly on the Kaanapali Beach in Maui. Kaanapali Beach was regarded as one of best beaches in the world. It is a busy beach with several high end resorts, a shopping village, and several miles of pristine beach. Whaler is a managed apartment buidling with 24 hour security and a staffed lounge. Nearby AmenitiesNext door to the Whaler apartment is the shopping mecca Whaler Village with numerous stores and restaurants. The nearest grocery store is a couple of miles away. The House/ApartmentThe apartment is kept in great shape. Whaler apartment building has over one hundred other apartments, but this particular apartment, 201, is probably one of the best in the entire building. It sits directly on the ocean front with a huge lanai that overlooks the pacific. GardenYes, it has a wrap around lanai that overlooks both the ocean and the mountains in Maui. It's magic place where we spent many afternoons watching the idling sail boats and humpback whales playing in the ocean, sipping tropical drinks and eating sushi while watching the sun sets over the Lana'i island. There is a pool and a hot tub on the property, the garden is well tended and beautiful and a gold fish pond. Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasIt has tasteful tropic furniture, beautiful berber carpet, two marble bathrooms, The bedroom has a king-sized bed, and there is a large living room with a sofa that converts to a double bed. Trisha, the owner, has a bookshelf full of books, she even left a pair of binocular so people can watch the whales in the ocean. There are two large TVs and a set of dining furniture for four to six people. Bedrooms/BathroomsYes -- everything was in perfect working order. The bathroom is done in marble, and has a set of washer and dryer. KitchenThere is a fully equiped kitchen with Calphalon cookware and a large window that lets you look at the ocean while cooking. Problems or BonusesIt has surpassed my best expections. The biggest bonus is to be able to listen to the waves all night long, and watch my kids play in the surf when sipping a drink on the lanai. Agency and Representatives (and price)I cannot say enough good words about the owner, Trisha. She is very professional and had everything arranged perfectly for us. We picked up the key from the Whaler lobby, which is just like a hotel lobby with 24 hour staffing. The cleaning lady came before we got there and the apartment was spotless. Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?Yes. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions. My member id is SteveS on the slow talk forum. Things to do in this areaThere are numerous activities in the Kaanapli area. This is probably one of the best areas for a family to stay in Maui. We spent a lot of times on the beach, visited all the neighboring resorts, and walked to the restaurants on the beach. Maui is a small island, so all the attractions are within a short driving distance. Snorkling is best at Monokini, a half-mmon shaped tip of a volcano in the ocean reachable only by boat, and championship golf courses abound on the island.
